The Story
I was cracking my brains drafting ‘About Me’. I have my
daughter, Desiree, on my back while I was doing so. It was a bad week for us.
My husband was away on a business trip; my kids and I were all down with a
virus. As I was typing away, I could hear my daughter breathing through her
blocked nose. She was struggling with her nap earlier and eventually she was
able to sleep soundly on my back.
‘You are carrying them too much!’
‘You are spoiling them!’
‘She can walk already!’
Those were what I often hear whenever I carry my kids.
But can they hear the tiny whispers and the little sigh of
contents when my kids snuggle against me when I carry them? Can they feel the
sense of closeness and security when I hold them close? Can they feel that
unspoken joy and connection between us?
And this is why; I will never stop carrying my kids, for as
long as I can, and as long as they need or want to be carried.
When did I start? (How and Why)
When my son, Konstanz, was born, he constantly wants to be
carried. I had a Baby Bjorn then. We
went everywhere in it. We did the housework together. He was happy, I was hands
free and I felt like I can still do whatever I want/need to do even when I have
a baby in hands. 5-6 years later, I had my 2nd child. She couldn’t accept any
carriers. She wouldn’t stay in the pram. I couldn’t get myself hands free again! I
got to know a friend from my local mummy group and she introduced a few of us
to woven wraps. And that is where it all
begins.
Down the rabbit hole
It all started with Lennylamb. I bought 3 Lennylamb off
their website despite I have not tried wrapping but only watch YouTube videos
(Wrap you in love!). It was indeed a steep learning curve. But Desiree was
happy in a wrap and I am hands free once again! My search for new wraps begins
after that. I am curious about different brands, blends and wrapping qualities.
I tried Lennylamb, Didymos, Natibaby and eventually move on to high end wraps
like Pavo and Artipoppe. Artipoppe became my most favorite brand (still is!)
and I tried over 30 of their wraps in a year. I must admit I have an obsession
for unicorns, bourette silk and seaweed. It’s hard to believe but babywearing
is not just an aid in motherhood, it has become my hobby, my wardrobe and my
job.
Babywearing Consultant – Best Gift Ever
My husband, Desmond, saw how serious and interested I am in
babywearing. He booked the tickets for everyone to Sydney for a holiday and
surprised me by booking a babywearing course with Babywearing School Australia,
which was conducted in Sydney then. The course not only made me a Certified
Babywearing Consultant; I have also learned many things about babies that I
never knew. I learned the benefits of babywearing our babies, why some babies
cry in carriers and others don’t. I learned the importance of choosing an
ergonomic carriers and why a seat pop in a wrap job. I learned how different
carriers and wrap carries have different pressure on our babies and us.
